报告一:Exploring sediment transport processes via particle-resolving simulations

主讲人:美国加州大学圣塔芭芭拉分校 Eckart Meiburg教授

报告摘要:

We present grain-resolving Navier-Stokes simulations for a variety of sediment transport processes. These simulations are based on an Immersed Boundary approach, which accurately captures the flow around each particle and in each pore space. We will discuss several different applications, among them particle sedimentation, particle-turbulence interaction and submerged granular collapse processes.  One focus will be on the influence of cohesive forces in such flows, especially the formation and break-up of aggregates consisting of several individual particles.

主讲人简介:

Eckart Meiburg,美国加州大学圣塔芭芭拉分校力学系杰出教授、流体力学交叉学科研究中心主任,曾任机械工程系主任,是美国物理学会会士(APS Fellow)、美国机械工程师学会会士(AMSE Fellow),兼任美国物理学会流体力学分会主席。Meiburg教授在海洋异重流、计算流体力学等领域有很深的学术造诣,是国际上异重流模拟领域最顶尖的科学家之一。2010年受邀在流体力学顶级综述期刊Annual Review of Fluid Mechanics (IF=12.33)上发表了题为Turbidity currents and their deposits的综述文章,近5年来,在Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Journal of Geophysical Research, Physical Review Fluids等国际专业权威期刊发表了10余篇关于异重流模拟的研究论文。

 

报告二:A short introduction to gravity flows in the ocean

主讲人:英国阿伯丁大学 Benjamin Charles Kneller教授

报告摘要:

Gravity flows in the ocean range from those induced by the temperature and/or salinity differences, with very small excess density, to those induced by the presence of particles that include an enormous range of particle concentrations (from <10-3 to >10-1  volume % solids) and sizes from a few cubic metres for to >1012 cubic metres. Transitions between different sediment gravity flows flow types occur, from purely Newtonian to concentration-dependent pseudo-Newtonian to visco-plastic.Multiple mechanisms are responsible for the initiation of gravity flows.

Benjamin Charles Kneller,英国阿伯丁大学教授,在海洋沉积学领域深耕近30年,是世界著名的海洋沉积学家,同时是美国石油地质学家协会(American Association of Petroleum Geologists)、伦敦地质学会(Geological Society of London)、美国地球物理联合会(American Geophysical Union)三个协会的会士。Kneller教授在深海沉积体系和重力流沉积过程研究方面成果卓著,近年来已在国际重要期刊上发表了近百篇文章,其文章总引用次数超过3000次,H-index高达30左右,在海洋浊流沉积学领域产生了重要影响。
